There are only a few giants
when it comes to musical instruments and Fender just so happens
to be one of them. They make basses for every genre of music
and they have been doing it for a very long time.
Fender was the first company in the world to make an electric
bass. They were and still are to this day innovators. In 1951
the Fender
Precision Bass was born. Being the very first
electric bass made makes it a huge collectors item and any
bass collector would love to add it to their collection. It
would make it's mark on music history and change everything
with precision. It was the first bass guitar to use frets
which made everything more precise!
In 1960 yet another great Bass was born, this was called
Fender Jazz
Bass. This bass would also change history. It
has a much brighter tone. The very first model had two stacked
knobs which was later changed to three. This is an easy indicator
as to which one you might have your eyes one. The original
two knob version well cost you more but any vintage Fender
Jazz bass is an excellent choice.
1961 Marked the birth of a completely different bass guitar,
the Fender Bass
VI. This bass came with six strings that were
slightly thinner than regular bass strings and it also came
with a whammy or Tremolo bar. This awesome guitar can go either
way. Play it as a bass or a guitar. Imagine the possibilities.
1965 Brings the first Fender 5 String bass. The Fender
V bass. It proved to be before it's time. 5 String
basses were just not what the public wanted at that time.
1966 brings in the last bass guitar designed by Leo Fender.
The Fender
Mustang Bass. This was made the same year Jimi
Hendrix releases his debut single. It was a shorted scale
electric bass made as a companion to the Mustang Guitars.
1970 brings the birth of the Musicmaster
Bass Guitar. This bass was simply a lighter version
of the Mustang. It is also the shortest Fender bass ever made.
This year also brings us the first fretless fender basses
as well.
